Hi, I’m Mike—co-founder of Balkland and your on-the-ground tour leader. I’m involved from the first message to the final farewell, making sure everything feels effortless and every day feels designed around you.

I built Balkland because I love travel—but I love it even more when it’s done properly: smooth, safe, well-paced, and full of real moments. I design journeys from a traveller’s point of view: what I’d expect, what can slow a day down, and what makes people feel genuinely looked after without needing to ask. That mindset shapes everything—from routing and timing to hotels, local guides, and the small touches that elevate the experience.

On tour, you’ll usually find me upbeat, attentive, and always ready with the next viewpoint, the next story, or the next “you have to try this” local bite. I’m a foodie at heart, and I believe food is one of the fastest ways to understand a country—so I’m always looking for places that feel authentic, not touristy. At the same time, I’m detail-first: realistic driving times, smart stops, comfort, and a rhythm that lets you enjoy the Balkans without feeling rushed.

Most of all, I treat guests like friends. I’m constantly thinking, “How do we make today even better?” Sometimes it’s a scenic detour, a perfectly timed coffee stop, a reservation you didn’t know you needed, or a small surprise that isn’t written in the itinerary—simply because the moment is right. For me, success is simple: when guests feel relaxed, cared for, and genuinely happy—and the trip ends with that smile that says, “This was exactly what we hoped for.”
