Arriving in Lukomir, you’ll find yourself in Bosnia’s highest village, perched about 1,500 meters above sea level. With roots stretching back to the 14th century, Lukomir is a living testament to history, brimming with stories and traditions.
In Lukomir, engage with the friendly locals, delve into their customs, and create memories that will last a lifetime. This village is not just about its historical significance; it’s about the connections you make with its people and their way of life.
Surrounded by towering mountains and awe-inspiring views, Lukomir invites you to explore its rich heritage. The beauty of its natural landscapes is as much a part of the village’s charm as its history and culture. Here, you can truly uncover the past, connect with the present, and experience the unique magic of Lukomir.
Get ready for amazing views of the Obalj and Visocica Mountains. They are big and beautiful, really standing out in the landscape.
Look out for the Rakitnica Canyon too. It’s very deep, about 800 meters (2,625 feet), and really impressive to see. This canyon is one of the special natural sights on our journey.
Continuing our journey, we head to the Umoljani village. Here, we dive into its rich history and cultural richness. As soon as we arrive, you’ll have the chance to explore the village and find its hidden treasures.
One of the main attractions in Umoljani is its old mosque. This mosque is not just a religious place but also a symbol of the village’s heritage. It shows the long-standing traditions of the area. During our visit, we’ll learn about the mosque’s history and appreciate its special design.
After exploring, we’ll enjoy a homemade lunch in Umoljani. You’ll get to taste true Bosnian food, including local favorites like Pura and Pita. This meal is a perfect way to experience the local cuisine.
Once we’ve enjoyed our Bosnian lunch, it’s time for a refreshing hike. Just a 10-minute drive from our lunch spot, we’ll park and start a short hike to reach Cold Creek (Studeni Potok).
