Need to Know

Things to consider before the trip!

Currency & Payments

The Balkans use multiple currencies. Euros are widely accepted in many tourist areas, but local currency is recommended for markets, cafés, and smaller towns. ATMs are common in cities and larger towns, and cards are accepted in most hotels and many restaurants.

  • Romania: RON
  • Bulgaria: BGN
  • Serbia: RSD
  • North Macedonia: MKD
  • Albania: ALL
  • Bosnia & Herzegovina: BAM / KM
  • Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Kosovo: EUR

Exchange rates change daily—please check a live currency converter close to your travel date.

Tipping

Tipping is not mandatory, but it is appreciated. In restaurants and cafés, rounding up or leaving around 5–10% is common. Small gratuities for local guides and drivers are welcome, at your discretion.

Electricity, Wi-Fi & Water

  • Electricity: 230V, 50Hz. Plug types C and F (two round pins).
  • Wi-Fi: Standard in most hotels; common in cafés and restaurants.
  • Water: Tap water is often safe in major cities; bottled water is widely available if preferred.

Weather

Weather varies across coast, inland areas, and mountains. Please check a reliable forecast a few days before departure and plan layers accordingly.

Flexibility

Timings are approximate and may shift due to traffic, border procedures, weather, or local conditions. The order of visits may be adjusted to protect the best and safest experience on the day.

Photo & Video

Photos and videos taken during the tour may be used for Balkland promotional purposes (website, social media, brochures). If you prefer not to appear, please inform your tour leader at the start of the trip.

Payment & Cancellation

Payment schedules and cancellation terms vary by tour type and group size. Your confirmed booking documents and Balkland Terms & Conditions are the reference for final, legally binding details. Some services (for example, flights or special tickets) may be non-refundable once purchased.
